Swope Park. One of the largest urban parks in the U.S. and located less than 20 minutes from downtown, Swope Park features countless hiking trails along limestone bluffs and wooded valleys that boast a wide array of colorful foliage and wetland wildlife.

Ernie Miller Park and Nature Center. Located in Olathe, this wildlife getaway features a variety of old bridges, stone embankments and babbling streams within its 116 acres. It also features an animal education center.

Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Five miles of paved and woodchip paths weave throughout this natural ecosystem and botanical gardens, making it a great spot for hiking virtually any time of the year.

Parkville Nature Sanctuary. Three trails – Old Kate Trail, White Tail Trail and Bluebird Trail – each have different features and accessibility, but are equally popular in this hiking destination just 20 minutes north of downtown KC.

Fleming Park. Located in Jackson County and winding around Lake Jacomo, this park sees approximately 1.3 million visitors each year, making it one of the most popular parks in the metro.
